Social Media Mastery - What Makes A Video Go Viral? - Episode 7
OMG Episode 7. I hope you are doing great! :-)
The past seven days have been filled with highly rewarding social media content. I’ve gone viral multiple times - with some really silly content.
Two weeks ago, I covered “How do I give myself the best chance of going viral?” and I still stand by everything I mentioned in that newsletter. However, I didn’t comment on one key factor that WILL make a video go viral! It’s called:
The Purple Cow Theory.
Let me explain:
I first heard about this from a man you might have heard of, called Mr Beast. With 400 million subscribers on YouTube (and millions more across other platforms), he definitely knows a thing or two about going viral on social media!
He described it like this:
“If you’re driving home and see a regular cow, your brain won’t even register it - because it’s just a normal, everyday thing. But if you’re driving home and see a purple cow, you’ll get home, tell everyone about it, and it’ll stay in your thoughts for a long time. That’s exactly what I aim to create with my videos!”
As I mentioned two weeks ago, I believe every single person has the potential to go viral on social media. But very few people actually try. If you’re creating content, you’re already ahead of most people. If you take it a step further and focus on making ‘Purple Cow’ content, your chances of going viral will skyrocket!
Make sure to subscribe, and remember -"Don’t be afraid to be different. Be afraid of being the same as everyone else.”
